For centuries Christians have meditated on Jesus’ final journey to Calvary. Inspired by the traditional Stations of the Cross, French organist and composer Marcel Dupré improvised fourteen dramatic musical depictions in 1932 interspersed with readings by Paul Claudel (French Ambassador to Washington, DC from 1928-1933).
In this contemplative, candle-lit performance, Claudel’s poetry and original paintings by local artists join Dupré’s Le Chemin de la Croix (Stations of the Cross) in illustrating Christ’s final hours.
