FPC Tyler wins Spirit Stick at Spelling Bee
FPC Tyler brought home the Spirit Stick from this year’s annual PAVE Spelling Bee. PAVE (formerly the Literacy Council) held their 33rd Annual Spelling Bee on August 6 at Green Acres Crosswalk Center.
This year’s theme was “Video Games.” The FPC Team was tasked with dressing as the racing game “Pole Position.” The crew dressed in racing costumes, pit crew outfits and waved racing flags.
The FPC Team was represented by spellers Rev. Stuart Baskin and Mitch Adams, who brought home a fourth place finish this year.
PAVE offered teams to compete in “Audience Spell” which is a chance for a team member (other than the spellers) to correctly spell a word to stay in the game when the speller does not know how to spell it. Church member Cristy Arscott correctly spelled ‘ichthyology’ to keep First Presbyterian Church Tyler in the game.
It was Trane Technologies who took home first place during the Spelling Bee, correctly spelling ‘aphorism’ to clench the overall win. UT Health was the first team out, incorrectly spelling partition.
This was FPC Tyler’s first time to bring home the Spirit Stick award.
